Who it is for
Two divisions. Miss is for women no younger than 18 on September 1, 2027 and no older than 28 on September 30, 2027. Teen is for girls no younger than 14 by September 1, 2027 and no older than 18 on September 30, 2027. Miss America says 18-year-olds can choose which division to compete in.
Contestants must live, work full-time in person, or study full-time in the state they compete in. Miss North Carolina notes that Teens have no residency rule for local titles, while some Miss locals have county restrictions.
How locals feed state and national
Each season starts with a Miss America membership, valid for one season. From there you contact a local director and compete for a local title, such as Miss Newberry or Miss Asheville. Only local titleholders compete at state.
Miss South Carolina is held in June at the Township Auditorium in Columbia. Miss North Carolina is held in High Point the week of June 21 to 26, 2027. State winners go on to Miss America and Miss America's Teen.
Miss South Carolina also says a local festival or university title can qualify a candidate, through a separate application, and that an at-large entry exists.
What is judged
The South Carolina state schedule includes preliminary nights, talent nights and finals. Winners receive scholarships toward tuition. Neither state organization describes itself as natural or glitz: this is a scholarship and interview program, not a beauty pageant in the toddler-system sense.
